Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because technology can provide information\u2014but it cannot replace judgment<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Judgment is the ability to interpret information meaningfully, to distinguish signal from noise, and to make decisions aligned with long-term strategic objectives rather than short-term metrics.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n In supply chain management, this distinction becomes critical<\/strong>. Consider a simple scenario: a system recommends switching to a lower-cost supplier. A purely data-driven approach may focus on immediate cost savings<\/strong>. However, sound judgment would ask deeper questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Is the supplier reliable? Such questions cannot be answered by algorithms alone.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Ironically, as organizations invest more in sophisticated tools, the development of managerial judgment is often neglected. Training programs emphasize systems, analytics, and optimization techniques\u2014but rarely focus explicitly on decision-making under uncertainty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In reality, judgment is developed through a combination of experience, reflection, and the courage to act despite incomplete information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In my interactions with supply chain professionals across industries, I have consistently observed that the most effective leaders are not those with the most data\u2014but those who know how to interpret it wisely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the digital age, therefore, judgment is not just relevant\u2014it is indispensable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For professionals aspiring to leadership roles, the message is clear: <\/p>\n\n\n\n master the tools, but do not neglect the art of judgment.
